The Foundation of roundsquared

IMG_6787.jpg

In 2013 Mark Pattison & Helen Fisher founded roundsquared, formally Pathways to Leadership.

Helen & Mark brought over 50 year of experience between them working and advocating for people with disabilities and in particular people with an intellectual disability. â€‹roundsquared was established in response to families who wanted to self-manage their NDIS funding.

The establishment of roundsquared brought together Helen & Mark’s beliefs and values of self-determination and the right of people with disability to live valued and meaningful lives their way.

In Mark’s words:

“While it is impossible for a square to be a circle, it is possible for people with disability to be citizens of their own country and citizens of the world. Citizenship is not determined by my physical appearance, my intellectual ability, my wealth or my job; for me citizenship is what I hope for and work towards for my two girls: a place in their community of equality and opportunity. What I have done and what I will do is not as important as what I do now”.

For Helen & Mark it was a personal journey to ensure their daughters received and were supported by a service of the highest quality adhering to these values.

Sadly, Mark passed away 9th November, 2023, following a battle with cancer.

Throughout his lifetime Mark was an unrelenting force championing for the rights of people who live with disabilities. This was especially true for those who live with intellectual disabilities. His passion and commitment for advocacy is a true reflection of Mark’s character. The impact his work had on the disability community cannot be understated.

roundsquared acknowledges and honours the lasting impression Mark has left on  roundsquared. In his & Helen’s name we continue to work for justice, equality and equal opportunities for employment, which remains one of the core goals for our work. Mark was never afraid to have those challenging discussions to bring about positive change. This is part of his legacy, and it will always remind us what we are working towards and for at roundsquared.

Helen & her daughters continue the legacy of roundsquared as Members.
