I joined roundsquared in June 2019 as the policy development officer working on issues of a more systemic nature for the roundsquared members. Prior to this position I was a Local Area Coordinator with Uniting in Batemans Bay. I moved to the South Coast in 2019 from the Gold Coast to be closer to my daughter and two granddaughters in Ulladulla. I also have a son and four grandchildren in Brisbane who I see as regularly as possible. The love of my life is a little fella called Hamish. He is a West Highland White Terrier who 17 months old and is the most adorable little guy with lots of attitude (Westitiude).
Prior to moving to Batemans Bay, I had worked for 13 years in the community sector in Queensland, firstly on the Fraser Coast and then in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. These positions included aged care advocate, policy officer for COTA Qld, mental health peer worker, Community of Practice Manager for Queensland Voice for Mental Health and LAC with Feros Care. I have a passion for social justice and see mental health as one of the primary areas where prejudice and bigotry still exist to undermine people’s recovery and social inclusion. Before this I lived in Canberra where I had a career in the public service for some 20 years.
I am so impressed with the roundsquared ethos and stance on social justice and human rights. I love people with passion to make a change and just hope that I can live up to the high ideals of this organisation and its directors. I have also just been appointed by the NSW Minister for Mental Health, the Hon Bronnie Taylor MLC as an Official Visitor to mental health units in southern NSW.
